"Take Five," the surprise radio hit from Time Out, would enter the record books as the first million-selling jazz instrumental single on the Billboard Hot 100, and "Blue Rondo à la Turk" would become an instant classic. This edition marks the 50th anniversary with an unprecedented presentation of music, images, insight and history, including the chance to hear the classic Brubeck Quartet in top form live at Newport, plus a companion DVD offering a fresh take on the making of this pioneering recording. The experimental meters of Brubeck's music set Time Out apart from the pack. But the appeal of this album--in 1959 and today--is less in the rules it broke, and more in the sheer sweep and effervescence and pure unadulterated fun of the music. For all his seriousness and ardor, Dave Brubeck had somehow recaptured a sense of childlike wonder in this project. And for that reason, the decades may pass and tastes may change, but it will always be the right time for Time Out. | | | Product Details: | | | Audio CD Release Date:

A great packageFeb 06, 2010 I purchased the vinyl version of "Time Out" in the sixties...classic stuff. The DVD of Brubeck talking about the ideas/influences behind the writing/arranging of the songs is excellent. I wanted it to be longer. Joe Morello was a big influence in my drumming style when I played as a teenager. It's all good stuff!

Genial!!!Dec 30, 2009 Recibí este disco el 24 de diciembre. No pudo haber mejor regalo!!!

A classic jazz work.Dec 06, 2009 I've worn out a couple of 33s, an 8 track, and a cassette version of Time Out. Somewhere along the line I lost my CD and mistakenly deleted two tracks, so I jumped at the chance to get this Legacy Edition. Outstanding sound from a true pioneer of jazz.

Even better 50 years later!Nov 28, 2009 I've seen Dave Brubeck in concert 3 times, most recently in October 2009 in beautiful Shea's Theater in Buffalo, NY. One of Dave's sons, Matthew, even made the jaunt down from Toronto, CA to join the quartet with his cello, after the intermission. Fantastic!
Dave always takes the time to explain the origins of his music, and he told a few stories about the music on Time Out. It was the first jazz album to sell over million copies. And it's as fresh today as it was 50 years ago when it hit the radio waves in 1959. Enjoy the beat of Blue Rondo a' la Turk and the quintessential Take Five. This set also includes previously unreleased live recordings at Newport and a bonus DVD that's lots of fun, too. Go back in time with this one, then enjoy the glorious ride into the future!
