Description:

On May 1, 1970, after polishing off the overdubs for his paradoxical "Self-Portrait" album earlier in the year, Bob Dylan re-entered the studio for the first of his "New Morning" sessions with a small ensemble that included drummer Russ Kunkel, bassist Charlie Daniels and Beatles lead guitarist George Harrison, and a set list that included covers of Sam Cooke's "Cupid" and the Beatles' "Yesterday." This shot of Dylan, taken during the session by Al Clayton, shows the artist relaxed and thoughtful, his rimless prescription glasses in hand, perhaps listening to a playback of "If Not For You."
